Team McLaren Mercedes 2006
The 2006 season is coming soon, and as an avid Formula One fan I'll be posting team details, starting with my favourite team, Team McLaren Mercedes.
This is their latest challenger, the all-new MP4-21!!

Under covers
Out under testing for the first time in BarcelonaOkay, first of all, it's friggin' orange! As West is no longer the main sponsor of the team(some crap about banning of tobacco advertising in EU), the team changed their liveries.. The good ol black n' silver paintjob that made previous McLarens the best looking cars on the track is now gone, replaced by this icky orange look. Damn Johnnie Walker(the current main sponsor) for having orange as their company colour.
Rear details
Front wingThe front wing on the new car harks back to the low, narrow design used on the ill-fated MP4-18 and MP4-19B.
The MP4-19B
I much prefer last year's nose design, it looked very smooth and sophisticated. But hey, if the engineers say the new one is better, who am I to complain eh? At least the gorgeous 'wings/horns' are still there, albeit looking more angular.

Look at those side-pods, they remind me of...
...last year's Minardi?? Oh God no!

and can decelerate from 185mph to a standstill in 3.5 seconds.
Driver Lineup is unchanged, with the Finn Maester Kimi Raikkonen taking car number 3 and Columbian Juan Pablo Montoya in car number 4.
With Fernando Alonso confirmed a race seat for 2007, one of the current two will have to go. No one knows which one it'll be, but deep down I worry if this matter will affect the team's performance in 2006.
Kimi Raikkonen
Juan Pablo Montoya
Will we get to see this again soon? I sure hope so!
In the no-less-important roles of test drivers are Pedro de la Rosa and F1 rookie Gary Paffett.

...last year's Minardi?? Oh God no!As some of you have known, new technical regulations have forced teams to use a V8 engine instead of the norm V10. The rules state :
• All engines must have 8 cylinders and be 2.4 litres(used to be 10 cylinders with 3.0 litres), weigh no less than 95kg and have two inlet and two exhaust valves.
• The centre of gravity of the engine in the car has been fixed so that the engine configuration cannot be an advantage.
I, for one think this is a good idea for reducing the speed of Formula 1. In general, down-grading from V10 to V8 brings a reduction of power by approximately 20 percent. What used to be 900bhp and above is now closer to 700-800bhp. The drivers said it is slower, but no easier to drive. Marvelous.
